This Week’s Pick Up A Mixed Bag with Some Retro Gold

This week’s pick up: A mixed bag with some retro gold

Some hauls are straightforward, just a quick grab and go, but others take you on a bit of a journey. This one? Definitely the latter.

It all started when I got the call from my house clearance contact, ready to unload a new batch of retro gaming treasures. As always, the excitement kicked in. What would I find this time? Sometimes, it’s a quick win, other times it’s a bit of a rollercoaster. And this haul certainly didn’t disappoint-offering up a mix of surprises.

The GameCube gamble: Hopes raised, then dashed

One of the first things that caught my eye were a couple of GameCube cases.  These are always a thrill to spot, and naturally, my heart raced with the hope that they may be complete. The anticipation builds as you carefully open each case, but I was met with a bit of a letdown: not a single disc in sight, both were empty.

But here’s the twist: while I didn’t find the games I was hoping for, one of the cases did come with a manual, which is a great find for anyone looking to complete a game that’s missing one.

Plus, the cases themselves still hold value. GameCube cases are always in demand, and if a disc comes in later (which often happens), these cases will be ready for it. It wasn’t the jackpot I’d hoped for, but it’s definitely not a complete loss.

To add a little more excitement to the mix, I also discovered three official GameCube controllers. Naturally, I thought, "Could there be a console hiding in the haul too?" But no luck there. Even so, the controllers are always a popular find.

A sweet surprise: Logitech racing wheel complete with pedals

While the GameCube portion of the haul had its ups and downs, the rest of the load more than made up for it. Buried under some other items, I found a Logitech steering wheel and pedal setup in remarkable condition. It’s the kind of item that racing game fans will love. These setups can be hard to come by, especially in such great shape, so I’m excited to get it listed for someone who’ll appreciate it.

Retro gold: Amiga, Commodore, and VIC-20 finds

But the real star of this haul? Hidden away in one of the bottom boxes, I uncovered a handful of genuine Amiga, Commodore 64, and VIC-20 games. These are the kinds of finds that bring back memories of classic gaming. Sure, they’re not in perfect condition, but they’ve got character, blocky graphics, cassette loading screens, and all. They’re rare finds, and collectors of vintage systems are going to want to get their hands on these.

The thrills and letdowns of the haul

Like any good haul, this one had its share of emotional highs and lows. There were moments of hope, followed by a few letdowns, but the surprises more than made up for any disappointments. Whether it was the rush of finding those GameCube controllers or the joy of uncovering a rare retro gem, this pick-up was one for the books.

As always, I’ll be getting these new finds listed soon. If you’re after something specific or just want to see what’s new, make sure to keep an eye on our shop. And if there’s something you’ve been hunting for, feel free to reach out, you never know what might show up next!
